The problems of some overeducated desis Empty The problems of some overeducated desis

A desi man I know got his Ph.D in Civil Engineering. He could not get a teaching job because he was already in his forties.

So he took up the job that was offered at the state highways department. He was complaining that most of the guys he worked with were mere technicians, rose through the ranks just by sheer experience, did not know the theory and did not have an engineering degree.

He looked down on them. Nobody forced him to work there. What he did not realize was that the team of less educated technicians were far more productive and had better work ethic than the bribery seeking Engineers with degrees working for the highways department in Tamil Nadu. The American "technicians" he was criticizing at least made sure the construction codes were not violated.

What is it with the Indians who come here, desperate for the green card yet criticize and look down on the Americans they work with?
