in the years spanning 1950-1980 there was a movement spearheaded by breakaway carnatic musicians of tamil origin, mostly non-brahmins who swore allegiance to tamil and vowed to sing only tamil sahityams in concerts. this was in large part a rebellion against the brahmin orthodoxy in CM that shunned tamil and exclusively sang telugu and sanskrit compositions. sIrkAzhi govindarAjan was one of the leading voices in the breakaway faction. he had a fantastic brigha-laded voice and amazing reach and crystal clear enunciation of tamil sahityams. here is a fabulous RTP in karaharapriya by the master. enjoy!
