hmm...''ennnai pAda sonnAl enna pAda thondrum' negates her own singing, isn't it? one of the top thamizh movies IMO is pudhiya paravai, in every which way.

No, not it at all. At MCC we boys stuck to "baila" songs in serenading girls to get a few laughs. Here's an example:
On a cool-u summer-u morning
Went a girl-u for a walking
Companion-u she was lacking
Adada adada what a walking!
I will tell you how-u
It was the cupid's-u bowwu!
She was from the west-u coast-u
In a mundu she was-u dressed-u
As she walked-u on the road-u
Her mundu went-u phat-u phat-u! ( I will tell you how-u)
There came a hefty lad-u
His face-u was romba crude-u
Cow & Gate is nothing to beat-u
Kanji vellam as a food-u! (I will tell you how-u)
This lad-u went to the girl-u
Gave-u her a lovely smile-u
Took his comb-u combed his hair-u
Asked her-u what is your paeru! (I will tell you how-u)
She was in an awful-u mood-u
So she took a fire-u wood-u
On the head-u gave-u onnu
Aayaala avvada pappadam aaki! (I will tell you how-u)

Re: GC
>>> I think the movie borrowed generously from 'to chase a crooked shadow'. Some tidbits about this movie: the author manian wrote serial novels with names based on the above song- 'unnai ondru ketpen', 'unmai solla vendum' etc; the dance on the ship is very English - early sixties-ish. Apparently, Shivaji's brother studied in England for some time and he had some input into this or so I have heard.garam_kuta wrote:Impedimenta wrote:SO, intha maathiri yaaravadhu paatu paadinaangala? :-) just checking

I vaguely remember the name. Didn't know he went to school in England. That said, Pudhiya Paravai is a great movie. It is a movie that also showcased Sowkar Janaki in a completely different role than the ones she had been typecast.

>>>The college life in England may have been a short stint after which he returned. I remember certain parts of this movie, but not all of it. 'Unnai ondu ketpen' is a nice song.
