India ignored my asylum plea, claims Julian Assange

Assange, who is holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since June 19 last year, said in an exclusive interview that India was among the first countries he had approached for asylum. But he never heard back.
"I was disappointed and saddened that India, known for upholding human rights, never got back despite several requests by me for asylum. Indians are also great supporters of WikiLeaks. I therefore contacted the foreign office through the Indian high commissioner. I wrote to them but they never responded," Assange said over telephone.

It is good in talking...but never match the talk...most of the time.

Dear Seva,
I have mixed views on Julian and other e-hackers so-called similar whistleblowers.
While *there are "real whistle blowers".. people who sit behind computers..break the law- hack and indiscriminately unload sensitive security info, handing them on platters to enemies..are unethical and dangerous. If people in the social media make them e-heroes by elevating and worship them..it's their choice.
There are millions of people who are suffering in this world..with no one to speak up for them..and one can easily come up with lists and lists to grant asylum to them. To grant asylum for any country..there has to be mighty good reasons..for example, war refugees, leaders of freedom movements (usually true leaders will not run away, and sacrifice even their lives if they have to and stay and fight)..people who help the asylum seeking country - informants to save lives etc..the real heroes.
*Everyone knows that ALL govts monitor private citizens all the time, and after Sept 11 in the US and the laws passed..the US would do it by any means necessary..people who are surprised by this must be thinking about a "fantasy called America"..which never existed, and never will. I only hope they are not frivolous, distracted and not waste time..with harmless people, while let all the real dangerous once roam freely - giving them access to all kinds of sensitive security info.
I hope this man Snowden does not do this..talk about really dangerous:

Interesting developments dear Maria.
The Brits already seem to have the charges against Assange for unprotected sex in Sweden to deal with him about Wikileaks, let's see what the Americans charge Snowden with for leaking out that the US is doing the same thing (electronic-espionage-wise) as China?

India is not known for upholding online freedoms. It wants to emulate China more than the US when it comes to internet freedom.

Yes, it is strange. When a politician bans TV channels and educated people support the ban, it sets the stage for politicians to try to ban online sites that criticize them.
