People have been voting for politicians and political parties since the Independence according to the number / percentage of quotas based on caste etc. in education and jobs and various religious goodies (religious laws and Govt. money for pilgrimages etc.).

The poor and unacceptable law and order situation in the country, including the corruption and inefficiency in public sector and the violence against women (including rapes and murders), were never an issue with people when they elected their representatives and Govts. in the past.

Now the chickens are home to roost as the situation gets out of hand.

Hmm, I wonder what is a way to bring  issue of crime against women to mainstream and have people vote based on security and safety of nearly half the population of India, instead of simply job quotas...... Its weird though, as women vote too, but maybe most people voting are men. Do u know off hand how many voters are female?
