Synthesis through classical music can only appeal to the (cultural) elites in a society. Real synthesis should unite the people but classical music because of its esoteric nature is unable to do so.

the selection of hindustani music in this film/video was superior to that of carnatic music. it seemed as if the film/music director knew and understood hindustani music better than carnatic music.
 
i specially enjoyed the hindustani piece in raag bhairav(?) starting at 9:29.
 
one final observation: in this video, i saw for the first time, a woman playing the mridangam.
