Can one of you post the link to this article in new York times?
Pbs also carried a news item on this topic.
key take aways:
1. Usa upward mobility was lower than Norway, and Denmark and other rich countries. However Usa is among the countries with highest income inequality along with Uk and Italy.
2. Upward mobility in Usa is strongly related to Geographic location. Southeast has least mobility. Cities allow higher mobility than rural areas.
On average only 9% of families crossing the barrier of. Class limits.

Keeping aside sarcasm for a minute, this research does raise questions on future opportunities for commoners of Usa.
traditional skills and hard labor do not even seem to guarantee employment or loser middle class life style. Money is moving into knowledge oriented jobs and acquaring those skills is difficult for many Americans.

It is interesting to see how this problem is resoled over next decades. Otherwise we will see more detroits.

Yes, sarcasm apart, this New York Times article is an excellent resource. You can play around and see how parents' income is such a big factor affecting incomes of children when they grow up. I ran this for the San Francisco Bay Area. The results are interesting.

The distribution of children's income as adults is opposite with poor and rich parents.
