Cryptics from the past (For GC)
i located one of my old sets. maybe you guys can try it again without looking up the answers in the old thread. the other variations i recall are words including an animal, bird or a drink that is not clued in the word play. i certainly had a lot of time and enthusiasm for this then

-----------------------------------------------------
Here's a set of 20 clues. In my hurry to form this set, I left out one letter in the word-play portion of each clue. The definitions refer to the full word whose length is indicated at the end of each clue. All the missing letters together form a relevant 5-word phrase. Finding that phrase will earn you 1000 points. For example, START may be clued as "Rats go back to the beginning (5)". Here, the letter "t" is omitted in the word-play.The usual rules apply for scoring. 100 for the first correct answer, 200 for the second correct answer and so on.I shall post an update at 8:00pm EST.

Re: Cryptics from the past (For GC)
Let me understand it. For example,
11. Lacking feeling, empty head, and naive. (9)
Numskull?
That is, b is missing from the clue "lacking feeling" for numb. Am I correct?
3. Housecleaners with second-class store items. (6)
I thought of "brooms" [b+rooms] but I don't see a missing letter. Is the answer wrong here?

Re: Cryptics from the past (For GC)
Never mind. I checked the link and understood. Sorry, I looked up some of the answers to get the hang of it so I'd rather not do this set. Can you work on a new set following this format for this Thursday? Thanks.
