NEW DELHI: RajyaSabha was on Monday adjourned twice during Question Hour as SP members stalled proceedings demanding special status to Uttar Pradesh while Left parties raised the issue of rising onion prices. ............

This is coming around to my point of view. Declare special status for all states, and declare all castes as backward (which is probably correct).

This is the problem with a coalition govt. SP has the largest number of seats and is using that status to blackmail Congress. How can the govt give special status to one state at the expense of the rest?

Or, perhaps the "special status" should be officially called as "beggar status".

The onion prices was an issue during Indira Gandhi's time too. If onion price could be a major political/election issue in UP, why not ghee in Punjab, fish in Bengal, jowar in Maharashtra, gongura in SA, toor dal in TN,  etc.?

The Left parties were shouting about onion prices. It's possible that the smaller onions are getting high value from exports with the rupee devaluation so the local prices have skyrocketed.

Gongoora prices will affect only some SA people. The rest of the country won't care less. Toor dal will have effect in TN as well as in AP. How about garlic? These days, everybody eats it and Punjabis will be depressed without it.

What is pathetic is that these parties are driven by their own agenda. They'd rather see the Indian economy take a beating and blame Congress, MMS or PC than urgently call for a co-operative effort by all parties to focus on the immediate steps the parliament can take to stem the downward spiral of the economy.

So much of the Parliament's time is wasted by these self-serving goons. How bad should the economy get before these politicians work together to rescue the country?
