On hearing sounds, Galley, a gun owner, armed himself and gave the 15-year-old a gun to search the house for what he suspected were intruders.

When Premila screamed and jumped out of the closet to surprise him, he turned around and shot her before realizing that she was one his best friends...

Praveen said that before Premila was pronounced dead he spoke briefly with Galley who told him he didn’t want to touch another gun, which was, according to Praveen, “a major change of attitude for a man who was interested in shooting and gun ownership.”

In an interesting irony, this situation is the wet dream of gun nuts. A responsible gun-owner suspects hostile intruders, brings out his gun and defends himself against intruders. Unlike true gun nuts though, the man in question here seems to know better now.

Yes, it is so sad. They seem to be really good friends, so close that the family doesn't want the shooter to go to jail.

She should know better than to spring these surprises on gun owners in rural locations. Intruders are a very real danger and cops take half an hour to respond to 911 calls in spread-out places.

Most gun owners are raised with guns and have the utmost respect for human life. You will see 16-year-old rednecks in our town going to school with guns in their pickup trucks (they go hunting after school) during hunting season, and not one of them has ever shot another human being ever.

No reason to make a case against guns because that girl wanted to play such a prank. In fact, women in India should start carrying handguns. That'll keep rapists away in 99.9% of the cases. 0.01% of the times, the rapists will end up dead.
