The demand for an anti-superstition law has grown louder with heads of 35 religious institutions submitting a memorandum to the chief minister on Wednesday, seeking such legislation.

Nidumamidi Mutt seer Veerabhadra Channamalla Swami, who submitted the memorandum, said there were two versions of the draft of the proposed legislation - one based on the concept note and another framed from the legal perspective, both prepared by the National Law School of India University.

“However, some elements have been creating confusion by wrongly projecting certain points mentioned in the concept note,” the seer said.

The chief minister who received the memorandum, said the government was committed to enact a law against superstition, but only after an elaborate discussion. He was in Bagepalli to take part in the 105th birth anniversary of Dr Jachani at Goolur in the taluk.
