This is not fair, Papi. You did not list Mughals in your to-do list.

There are four schools of Islamic jurisprudence. The Mughals accepted the most liberal school for their laws. Even here, if there was any dispute amongst the (liberal and conservative) judges, the matter would be taken up to the king for final disposal.

The punishment for blasphemy is perhaps what would distinguish current Islamic zealots from Mughals. The news came to the court of Akbar that the Quran had been torn and burnt by a few over enthusiastic Jesuit missionaries in Goa. Akbar was urged by many, including by his own mother, that a copy of the Bible should be treated in a similar way as a kind of tit for tat. Akbar refused, saying he would not avenge this act by taking action against an innocent book. He also continued to entertain Jesuit missionaries in court for the purpose of having religious discussions with them.

Further, hindus in Mughal India had to follow Hindu laws.

"Billions have been invested on promoting human rights in Afghanistan over more than 12 years of war and donors fear that hard won progress, particularly for women, may be eroding."

>>> Weren't the women in Afghanistan relatively freer (getting school education and working in offices etc., while without even wearing hijab or niqab) until the early 1980s?
