The killing of OBL gave American policymakers the hope that they can make declare victory and an honorable exit within a couple of years. But it looks like things are about to get worse... Hamid Karzai's powerful brother Ahmed Wali Karzai was killed today by a close associate.

Ahmad Wali's official position, as elected chairperson of the Kandahar Provincial Council was largely symbolic. But he skillfully and ruthlessly carved out a role for himself as the key powerbroker in southern Afghanistan... With the creation of this vacuum in Kandahar they have indeed claimed their most valuable scalp yet.
