Ambedkar got Ph.D in Colmbia Univ,law degr in London.He is called Bhim Rao. Nehru pass Camb Univ in III class but is called Pandit.@Swamy39

nehru is often referred to as Pandit Nehru. The word pandit does not exclusively refer to a priest.

Yes the word Pandit refers to the "learned one" and the kashmiri Pandits were called so for that reason. Compared to Columbia PhD and Cambridge III class, nehru needs to be De-Panditified. In fact, all his descendants have been de-panditified - to truly reflect their education and level of intelligence and honesty.

1. If we go by your logic, should you be called Brahmin Max or Purohit Max?

2. Karan Singh also comes from the line of Kashmiri Pandits. Why is he not addressed as Pandit Karan Singh?

3. Neither Gandhi  nor Nehru deserve the appellations their cronies foisted on them.

4. Karunanidhi is called Kalaignar because some people thought he was good in writing plays or movie scripts in Tamil language, What did Nehru do to deserve the title Pandit? He was neither a learned man nor well versed in Hindu scriptures. In fact, he hated Hinduism.

i think pandit is like a caste appellation, similar to iyer or gowndar. his sister used to be vijayalakshmi pandit.

More appropriately Pandit is like Sashtry - which can be any LEARNED Brahmin. Learned is a relative term, BTW.
