ources in the government said that the commission is in the final stages of preparing the report and has not held any hearing for nearly the last one year. In 2008, the inquiry panel had submitted one part of its finding with regard to the Godhra train burning incident, in which it had concluded that the burning of S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express near Godhra railway station was a "planned conspiracy".

nanavati has no credibility with the anti-modi crowd. he was supposed to submit his report a long time back. every few months he asks the modi govt for an extension and he gets it. this time he was supposed to submit his report on december 31 and again he asked for an extension. i think he has asked and has been given around 22 or 23 extensions.

One of our activists, Vinod Pandya had made an RTI application in 2011 seeking information regarding the expenditure on running the Commission. He was informed that till 2011, the Government of Gujarat had spent Rs.6.32 crores on the Commission. Adding the expenses of two more years since then, the expenditure would now be around Rs.7.75 crores. This includes the salaries of two Judges and the staff. After spending such humongous amounts of tax payers money and eleven years, we still do not know who killed the 1000 people in 2002!

On behalf of the victims, I had tried for almost ten long years to at least get Narendra Modi summoned before the Commission to ask him his version before an open forum. Nanavati however had refused to summon him for examination. Strange as it may sound, the main person against whom the allegations were made for being responsible for the 2002 violence has not even been examined by the very Commission that was appointed to find out how the violence took place!

After eleven long years, we would join the Gujarat tax payers to plead with Justice Nanavati to please give the clean-chit to Modi since that would save some public-money for the same result after a few more extensions. If the Commission could not find who killed the 1000 people after eleven years, we would be foolish to believe that it can do so after some more time. We can assure the Commission as well as the Government, give as many clean-chits you want, that will not wash the blood of his hand. Our struggle for justice will continue.
