for high volatility ETFs like this one, stops need to be much wider. tight stops are surefire way to get whipsawed. 10-18% moves up or down are nothing for NUGT

am interesting in finding out if "normal" TA applies to these leveraged instruments like they were common securities. let me look around to see what I find...macro level I was watching this interview of david rosenberg who claims inflation will pickup in 2014. that will be a net positive for gold and precious metals in general, going against the prevailing wisdom that gold will see 1000 soon. ofcourse this doesnt automatically translate into miners doing well but I just have this feeling....

You are right about that. That's why I am watching GDX off which NUGT is based. GDX also has the potential island reversal and three gaps pattern.

In this case pull back from highs and Trend lines.
Short term swing trade in terms of weeks.

A gap open is when a stock opens at a price that is outside the previous day's range.
If you see the GDX chart for the last 4 days , there is gap between 25.89 and 26.03. NUGT between 47.89 and 48.73.
Example of an island reversal pattern.

if NUGT trades between 47.89 and 48.73 in the next few days then the gap is conisdered filled and the island reversal pattern is negated. OTOH , if it opens below 47.89 and goes down from there , the pattern is in force.
