Actually marathas have been the economically and socially dominant caste in Maharashtra since the days of Shivaji . Now proposed reservations for marathas will make mockery of the quota system .

Is pawar a family name or caste name? how about naik and chavan ?z

people of maharashtra are known as maharashtrians , not marathas .

 maratha is the warrior caste of maharashtra , but have not been given kshatriya status because they began as tillers of the land before they took up arms . 

pawar is one of the family names of maratha caste people . so is naik or chavan .

Since no party is willing to do away with the Quota system as dictated by the constitution, the only way to get rid of it is by having too much of it. Hope this quota system gets berserk to such an extent, it becomes defacto ineffective.
