18:56 LIVE! Digvijaya could be Leader of Opposition in RS, poor Hindi may cost PC : Our sources tell us that finance minister P Chidambaram, if elected to the Rajya Sabha, could be the Leader of the Opposition in the house. Right now, BJP senior leader, Arun Jaitley holds the post. The other contender for the post is Digvijaya Singh.

But senior Congress leaders speculate that Chidambaram may not bag the post as his Hindi is poor, since it is essential that the LoP be fluent in the language. Which, of course, makes Digvijaya, the right choice. The Congress has not named its PM candidate, but names of LoP are being considered.

Of course, all this, if the 'wave' doesn't break.

Another point to note that over the last 20 years there have been more union cabinet ministers from Tamil Nad than from Uttar Pradesh even though the population of UP is almost thrice that of TN. It is surprising that UPwallahs are not cribbing about this.

One other point: the number of Lok Sabha seats of Tamil Nad and Pondicherry is half of the Lok Sabha seats allotted to Uttar Pradesh even though the population of TN and Pondicheery is one third of the population of UP. Looks like the TN politicians managed to cut a sweet deal for their state while the UP politicians preferred to sacrifice the principle of one man-one vote--following which their state would have had an even larger chunk of Lok Sabha seats-- at the altar of the National Good and National Harmony.
