“The lady flew down from Los Angeles in flight number SQ 422. The electronic goods, gold and sex toys found in her possession is evaluated to be worth around eight lakh rupees,” said additional commissioner of Air Intelligence Unit Mahendra Pal.

The explanation given by T Bachu Ali, who claimed to live in Los Angeles for the last 19 years, was bizarre. Ali claimed that all the sex toys and the lingerie in her luggage were a wedding gift for her daughter who would be tying the knot by this month end.

“This is a very implausible explanation to be trusted. Why would anyone want to gift these to a daughter and if at all why in such a huge quantity?” said another customs official.

It is obvious that she's smuggling them to sell for a higher profit in India where they are banned. The question is, why are sex toys banned in India? Now that is dumb.

It is not regulated like the west where it s sold in adult stores in a specific areas away from schools etc.

Cigarettes are sold too at the pan dabbas in every street corner. Why aren't cigarettes banned?

exactly. mid-day once told me that these are available in mumbai and they are very expensive. btw, how come sindhis have not got their hands on this yet? how difficult is it for them to set up a plant in ulhasnagar?

Indians are great in adopting the bad ways of the whites.

But when it comes to work ethic, law and order and keeping your cities clean they still remain Indian.

I think the customs officers were just being overzealous in their attempt to garner some cheap publicity at that poor lady's expense. The illegality is only if the items brought in without declaration (and payment of applicable duties) are for commercial purposes (and therefore in large quantities). The toys per se are not illegal. And she had only five of them, well within the limits of what a sexually healthy woman would need for personal use. The officers' argument that it is for commercial purposes is utterly ridiculous, but they knew the victim would not argue the case. As it happened, she never returned to claim the goods so the Indian Customs are now the proud owners of those five dildos.
