for the non-tamils, the late major is reciting a bharathiar poem and urging his daughter to sing along. the words roughly mean -- have no fear, have no fear, even when the sky is crumbling down on your head, have no fear.

It is a shame. Sometimes, we tend to forget with the expanding-growing affluent segments in Indian society and the images of great economic advances..there are still large populations in Indian society..who are struggling and are not paid or treated fairly, living under difficult conditions.

You are welcome, Max.

I am sure the video and story of this soldier resonates, for many reasons, esp. since our family members have served/serve in the Indian Armed Forces.

I, for one, have not forgotten that the poor still constitute 60% of the population. The rich 250 million have "virtually" divided the country into two. I met a friend of mine who is at a high position in M N C. When he dropped me at the Guindy station it was so funny to hear his comments about roads, new buildings, shops, and crowd. Easily one would have thought he had landed from phoren after 20 years. He said he has not walked on the road for 1 year since he bought his 2 crore flat in Thiruvanmiyur. He drives a Merc and he drives to the beach (which is 200 yards), then walks on the beach.

He is a great - middle class- guy otherwise - just the outlook of the so called middle-class is astonishing to say the least. Their compassion and heart for the poor has evaporated - rather - they dont even see the poor.
