i think the younger generation is moving away from religion period, not just islam. church attendance is down in the US and hindu kids in the US were never deeply religious to begin with. plenty of jews are only culturally jewish. the US will be like europe in another generation in matters of religious faith.

I might sound idealistic. But the root cause for all the problems that cause friction between Islam and other religions, is Political Islam. Crores of people have faith in their god, and Mosques are just buildings where they face Mecca and pray to their god. That does not bother anyone. The problem today is that Mosque is a symbol not just of the faith of Islam, but also Political Islam.

The faith of Islam should be distinguished from Political Islam. People need to make a distinction between these two and when Muslims oppose Political Islam, and realize that it is Political Islam that brings a bad name to their religion, they will introspect. This would happen only if large sections of a community in a particular region, follow this view.

Today the religious doctrine fuses the faith and Political Islamist aspects and is packaged together. It needs to be separated and and majority of Muslims around the world should eschew Political Islam.

It is possible only if major religious figures talk about this and defines a wall between faith of Islam and all Political Islamist acts that includes denigrating people of other faiths, and propagating an Islamic Supremacist doctrine. The Islamic religious scholars, should define a path, for an average Muslim to be true to his religion, without indulging in Political Islamist acts. If such a blueprint is defined, moderates will start following that blue print, and start distinguishing themselves from the Political Islamists. If you look at Turkey, we can see that sections of the population can be truly secular, despite being in a Majority. So it can be done, but only if Islamic Scholars work on a modified Islamic faith devoid of Political Islam.
