You are right on both counts. Indeed I had an aunt whose last name was Sitaraman.

Tambrahms seems to be everywhere. Mani, Rajan, nirmala, jayanti, JJ, etc.

Why do you keep lamenting that they do not have influence and power?

Do you want to run the whole country with only iyers and iyangars?

For every Niramala Seetharaman, I can show you at least two Tam Brahm women who live hand to mouth and could not afford to go to college whereas a OBC woman from middle class background gets admission based on quota and scholarship based on her caste.

My neighbor who is a Mudaliar (They are considered to be BC). His father worked in Reserve Bank. He got into medical school based on caste quota, I met him a few years ago. He was saying all of his four SILs are doctors. Obviously their caste has helped them.

1. Nirmala did not get her position because she is a tamil Brahmin. She got it because of her own merit. (at least I like to think so.) . She does not feel obligated to her caste mates as she made it on her own. But once she is there , she is taking up space that is allocated to people of her background.

On one hand, the forward castes want a merit based selection and on the other hand lament the fact that those merit based individuals do not help their fellow caste mates. You need resolve this contradiction in your mind.

2. I do not know the TN reservation system. You are pointing to a creamy layer problem. It is a problem India needs to resolve soon.

Nirmala will represent Andhra Pradesh as she will be nominated by the AP assembly for a Rajya Sabha seat. This was agreed upon between Chandrababu Naidu and Modi.

Nirmala and her husband Prabhakar lived in a town in coastal Andhra before moving to Hyderabad and settling there. She was born in TN but lived in AP for most of her life (except when she went for studies to Delhi and UK).

What you see as chilli powder is actually a mixture of chilli powder and crushed mustard seeds.

All that she is doing by "helping in making avakaya" , is placing her hands on the big vessel while the older lady is doing everything else.
