ఇలాంటి జాతరలు మావేపుకూడా చేస్తారు - పోలేరమ్మ, మారెమ్మ, ముత్యాలమ్మ .......... కొలుపులు. ఈరోజుల్లో వాటి ప్రాధాన్యత తగ్గిపోయింది. నాచిన్నతనంలొ, మారెమ్మకి దున్నపోతుని బలి యిచ్చేవారు. ఇప్పుడుకూడ ఇస్తున్నారేమో, నాకు తెలేదు. Really gruesome.

I think there are more restrictions these days. It is possible that some of these gruesome things may still go on when press is gone. 

Mahankali jatara in secuderabd is the biggest in T area.  The important cultural aspect is that these festivals were the occassions where ordinary people celebrated publicly in a very feudal dominated society. It was also an opportunity for the local artists. I used like dappu. Great Teen Maar. It is vey well captured by shankar jaikishen  in this song.
