Polavaram is passed in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

KCR, Kaivtakka, KD Rama Rao and Harish Rao can go to the Medak farm house and cry in chorus while Jagan joins them for Odarpu.

I never understood why it's such a big deal for telangana. is there anything besides the water access that I'm missing?

when andhra was formed madras was lost but tirupati was gained.
in the second formation of andhra Hyderabad was lost but polavaram was started.

polavaram can irrigate eg , wg, and Krishna lands. Future it can support Visakhapatnam, Gunter needs. long term it can provide water to prakasam and even nellore .

by reducing stress on Krishna waters, it can allow more Krishna water to royal seema projects.

telangana political leaders want to score political points. there is some human cost in rehabilitation. if done right this will bring those girizens into mainstream. there could be some local calculations but i have not heard of any economic consequences.

How was tirupati gained ? It was always a part of AP. Similarly, polavaram could've been constructed in a united state also. It was a part of the jalayagnam.

Andhras should be indebted to Congress for making this realize, without their initiative & YSR's push to accord national status, this would not have been possible. Good Job BJP! but you should have taken everyone's consent before bulldozing through.

Yup. divided or not, Polavaram project was going to irrigate lands in Andhra region only, this was neither gain for AP nor loss for 'T'.

Polavaram is originally planned in 1940s by Krishna iyer of Madras state. Kl rao worked on it. It was shelved as unfeasible. Revived again in 1980s.
Ysr's push in 2004 brought it back to limelight but got stalled again in 2006. Ysr deserves some credit (unlike some hardened partisans most andhras give credit where it is due).jai ram Ramesh, chiranjeevi and Congress deserve a mention.

Now modi and bjp deserve a thanks for bringing it back to realization. No need to mention current ap rulers as they will get the full benefit of the completed project.

Polavaram still faces the hurdle of court challenges but for the first time has real chance of completion. Andhras are very good at fighting hard to get what is rightfully theirs such as vizag steel plant. They were gifted their own polavaram dam.

Didn't that apology for a CM of Orissa declare some time ago that he would rather starve Godavari of water (Sabari and Indravati are Godavari tributaries) than let a drop of "Orissa water" flow into Godavari. And now the man has to live with not just the water going there, but some land (albeit ot so useful) in Orissa and Chattisgarh being submerged.

so there's no economic impact of polavaram project and moving those areas into andhra...

It is a big deal for T because, after Polavaram, they can't blackmail AP on controlling Krishna water and starving Krishna delta. With Polavaram, AP can tell KCR to go to the farmhouse, get drunk on Bobbili toddy and pass out. AP will still control the relationship as T will continue to be heavily dependent on AP's power generation. Unfortunately for KCR, the Deccan plateau is a "metta" and canal irrigation is not practical. So, T will end up depending on lift irrigation (electricity guzzler) and rain Gods (to fill tanks and wells).

CBN should learn from Gujrat (and California) and concentrate on agro related industries. During the campaign in AP, Modi was hinting at how AP can borrow such ideas from what has been achieved in Gujrat. AP can do much better than Gujrat since the Godavari and Krishna deltas are highly fertile and with Polavaram and modern technology, AP's agri production will be highly significant for the country's prosperity.

(In my view, Polavaram should be named after K L. Rao, not NTR as has been suggested in the media.)

The 7 mandals are mostly forest areas around godavari river. Girijans live there. Villages are sparesly populated. These people will be impacted. AP govt has to be more than fair with these people and provide them with necessary rehabilitation to bring them into mainstream. This is not merely a well worn cliche. Failure to do that will allow critics to cause problems including court injunctions to stop the project.

These mandals are also strong holds of different varieties of left parties. They can mobilize and offer stiff resistance.

In terms of economic effect, T area minimal to zero. Economic impact on AP is immensely positive. You cannot simply measure it in immediate rupees. It will change the nature of social setups in that coastal belt. It may be obscured a little bit by new state capital.
