Sachin's lack of commitment Empty Sachin's lack of commitment

Post by confuzzled dude Mon Aug 11, 2014 5:06 pm

Rajya Sabha witnessed ruckus on Monday over MP and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's application for leave. The leave application came in the wake of objections by members about his continued absence from the house. Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien said Tendulkar had asked for permission to remain absent citing "personal and professional commitments" and "family exigencies".
Some members raised objections and created a din. However, the house approved application of Sachin amid objections by some members. Tendulkar has been criticised for failing to attend a single Rajya Sabha session this year. The ace sportsman's average attendance so far is three per cent, as per PRS Legislative Research. Actor Rekha, also a nominated member, has less than five per cent attendance. Tendulkar, explaining his absence from Rajya Sabha, last week said it was his brother's ill health that has kept him away.

-> Why can't he resign if he can't do justice. oh! well looking at the tail end of his cricket career I'm not surprised. Isn't there any law that automatically disqualifies them if they can't meet minimum attendance requirements.

Apparently there is and it says they will loose membership if they miss 60 consecutive days of the house in session. So he and other celebrities may show up every 60th day to ensure their status is maintained.

"The attendance record of cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and actor Rekha might have raised questions about the role and relevance of celebrity MPs in the Rajya Sabha, but many of their elected counterparts do no better.

At least 33 MPs across both Houses of Parliament currently have less than 50 per cent attendance. That is, they are absent more often than they are present. Only three of those 33 are nominated members, an analysis of the parliamentary attendance records, compiled by PRS Legislative Research, shows.

Actors Hema Malini and Tapas Pal, who are both elected members of the Lok Sabha, have not attended even a single day of the ongoing budget session. Others with a poor attendance record include Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife, Dimple Yadav, deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s son Dushyant Singh.

In the Rajya Sabha, absenteeism is a trait seen even among seasoned politicians such as Amar Singh (40%) and Abhishek Manu Singhvi (47%)."
