When she says she is an American and she has devotion for him (the sathguru) but not for Shiva, he responds that Shiva doesn't need her devotion. How come he doesn't say that he doesn't need her devotion?

I think it is implied none needs the devotion except the practitioner who needs to become a devotee. I guess since she is from west and not exposed to Eastern ideas/spirituality, it is quite natural to become devoted(out of respect/reverence) to the teacher. (which can happen to anyone who learns a good concept/philosophy). But Shiva, she cannot see/feel/understand as she is a beginner and may be the reason she cannot connect/devoted to him yet.

He says that being devoted to what or who is not important as long as you have the devotion in your heart. Fine, but devotion without jnanam or even a bit of rationality could turn out to be blind devotion and it could be dangerous/damaging.
Devotion to charlatan babas and swamis and cult leaders is a dangerous thing.

One day Lord shiva decided to visit the earth and try some alcohol.

So he changed his get-up and went to a bar in Delhi and asked the bartender : "What all do u have". Bartender : "We have whisky, rum, vodka, gin, beer etc etc.".

Lord Shiva: "Let's try whisky first, give me 1 bottle of whisky". After having a bottle of whisky, Lord shiva decided to try Rum. Bartender was shocked

"Who is this man, after having a bottle of whisky, he is still on his feet".

After having a bottle of Rum, Shiva decided to have gin. After having a bottle of gin, he asked the bartender for beer.

Bartender couldn't stop himself asking him : "Sir, who are you?? I ve seen people getting drunk after having 4 glasses of whisky, and you've had 3 BOTTLES of hard liquor but you are still on your feet, who are you"???

Lord Shiva : "VATS, Hum Bhagwaan Shiv hain".

Bartender : Ab chadhi bhai ko!!
