comparison with B'desh are rubbish. however, let's not forget that we were never as good as AUS or WI when they were number 1. IND's record in IND has always been good, so let's talk about what this team has achieved away from IND.

two series win against West Indies (hahaha). who wants to talk about that? anyone can beat West Indies anywhere. nothing great about those two wins. (however, the first series win was much better then the most recent one.)

one series win against New Zealand. hahaha. even West Indies can beat NZ in NZ. nothing great.

one series win in ENG on our last tour because a decision went against ENG at The Lord's and some rain also helped us there. else ENG would have leveled the series. so, we were plain lucky to win that series.

the only thing worth talking about is our win at j'berg in a lost series, 1-1 in SA* recently and our win at adelaide and perth (sydney-gate prevened us from any better results). but barring those wins in test matches, what has IND done to make us believe that they are invincible and capable of beating any team on any pitch? nothing. so, although this team is good, it is not good enough to be at # 1 for a significant amount of time. it is no B'desh but it is not quite AUS either.

*during this time, SA drew two series in IND so we never had one up against them. and in the first series, desperate dhobi asked the curator to make a dust bowl in kanpur and awarded him 10K after the match that got over in three days. so much so that ICC pulled up the BCCI and issued a show cause. we could have lost that series if it were not for that dust bowl. unfortunately, SA lost a series to AUS right after they won it in AUS and then ENG drew a series in SA. if not for those disappointments, it could have been SA at # 1.

i meant: it could have been SA grabbing that spot from AUS before IND. ENG is definitely the number 1 test team at the moment. they thrashed AUS in AUS and have won 3-0 against IND (it could be 4-0) before tonight. ENG could have been tested by PAK had they not taken money for fixing matches. ENG can still be tested by SA and AUS when these countries travel to ENG. SA beat ENG in ENG last time around. they can repeat that performance.
