Sir, I take offence to your LOLZ at my *anthem*. My feelings are hurt. My anger is boiling over. I am outraged. So I will now go find a bus to burn and some windows to stone and work up a good appetite before lunch.

that's the video from my hols.

i have gained 8-10 lbs since thanksgiving, ouch. 4-5 before india trip, and 4-5 during it.

When I met my friends, they were pretty open about it lol. This is the beauty of meeting high school friends. There are no formalities. One look at me and they go, 'kyon, fb pe to teri badi achchi achchi pics rehti hain, aakhir kya raaz hain'. And I was like, 'wait I don't photosop my pics'. Anyway, the misunderstanding was cleared soon. The only time I posted my full bod pics were from summer, when I was in a much better shape. So keeping that in mind they were expecting me to be much slimmer. *sigh*

I lost 2.5 pounds - less than my standard wt loss.

Met a few of my high school mates......most doing well - financially super-O-super rich but driving around in 2 wheelers while keeping 2 or 3 cars at home. One says driving around in BMWs raises the ire of the powerful local castes and buys only VW or Honda every 2 years. 3 of them worth some 100 cr, 20 cr and another 300 cr. 2 mega developers and one running a school and buying a house every 3 years (and this guy barely passed every year in School). It is really funny how things turn out in the long run. The smartest ones are doing good but not great as the average guys. One went back to India giving up his GC and now sent by his company to UK and he is super pissed. Another returned to India 6 months back for good after decades in US (The spiritual dude with his 3rd wife now.). One super cutie woman becomes a super fatso and another looking remarkably chic and none of our wives like her (naturally). Fixed (ing) my roof with the help of my opposite house Musalman. Met some Jis who are hopeful of BJP consolidating power (yeah rite). met some right hand men of a couple of swamys. Oh yeah...finally a US-returned specialist doctor who wears only Dhoti and white shirt - be it to his hospital/clinic or classroom. Met some of my fathers close friends, with one asking me caringly how my father was doing. All in all a very colorful batch of schoolmates.

Went to a Senior citijen place (the famous Vana Prastha) and learnt (much to my shock) about their casteist selection criteria (MaxE - note this).

finally, looks like the plane servant maids were all hired when I was young and airlines assume that I still like them.

okay Doc-Dreamer: You dont know nothing about airlines, their operations, or their current problems. The younger ones dont want to join airlines and the older ones could not get jobs anywhere. So for the airlines-servant maids it is a win-win situation. Met a pilot with a jet license unable to get a job. The desi airlines want 50 Laks baksheesh. The dumb, young good looking chics (who the Airlines love to hire) get better pay as TV extras and call-center "girls." In the mean time, I heard "gold-digging" is fast becoming an accepted strategy for any half-decent looking girl.

yeah the opulence of some of my friends is eye blinding.

one is us-returned and running a company with offices in 2 countries, and 300+ employees. Arranged our mini get-together in her spacious 4 bedroom apartment, which she furnished herself by stuff she got from here, even the wooden floors! Ordered special local delights plus homemade stuff coz 'vidya, I know what kinda food you miss in the US'.

Another one is married to a huge builder, big shot Bollywood bigwigs and politicians come to her place for homemade lunch/dinner!

Yet another married a doctor, invited us for late lunch. Got lost entering her house. At every level, there seemed to be a party room, but before I could settle on that floor admiring the beauty of it, would be asked to go further up. After 3 or 4 floors came the terrace with full bar and grill. Served all kinds of healthy and unhealthy food. The doc-husband kept making rounds of sangrias for us. And beer flowed!

Yet another one took me out for dinner in one of the fanciest places. One of them likes Chinese, another Indian. I was non committal. So they ordered BOTH!!! Food flowed. Could barely sample everything. Full mix of Indian and Chinese in my tummy, alongwith alcohol. God knows how I reached back home that night.

Yet another (not my friend, but known her all my life), has their own exclusive farmhouse. In there you would think you are in some cottage-kinda vacation place in North Carolina or something. Amazing food made in the community's kitchen. Bonfire, drinks, dj with a singer, dance, shayari. That's what we call a PARTY!!! All senior doctors of the city there. If their patients saw them doing serpent-snake dance that night, they would have thought twice about getting treated by them lol.

Another one has her own business and is a health nut. Yet another one married to a big businessman in Delhi. All have big cars. All were happy to drive me around, or have their drivers drop me back home.

Ofcourse also met friends struggling to make ends meet. Was a good chance to put into perspective where I stand in life. I guess I am overall happy with the middle class freedom that I have here.

Agreed...your friends are richer than mine and even flashier.

and, I found - much to my satisfaction - that I could still travel standing in town buses (and on footboards), happy that my neuromuscular responses are still intact - although they needed slight retraining. I even got off the buses around the corners while moving and felt happy that I could still do those as well as any college student.

lol.. and the hospitality... when we were driving to the farmhouse in the outskirts, they made sure we didn't even have to pay at the toll naaka on the highway. When our cars reached there, we had to just take the host's name and development's name, and we were passed through.
