To show that they have higher caste origin, to differentiate themselves from the untouchable, low caste converts.

I'm not familiar with christian customs/norms so I take your word for that (assuming your pastor told you that)

If Reddy Catholics/Catholic Reddys  are very unchristian, I don't expect you to be familiar with christian customs/norms anyway, Comrade.

PS: There isn't a wiki page for Reddy Catholics/Catholic Reddys. Someone should create one.

You're grasping at straws there, twisteran. BTW, Why are you & your kamma buddy are so curious about others castes and religions? Oh! I forgot Hindus are like that wonly.

Some retain full Hindu name such as Sridhar Reddy. Some have mixed name like Gregory Reddy, Alexander Reddy, etc. They go to Church in addition to going to Hindu temples. For weddings, they do a catholic style ceremony and a Hindu traditional style ceremony as well.  In either case, there is a reluctance to let go their Reddy surname, which denotes a high caste.

really? making sure all gods are happy with them, i guess!

obviously, if they didn't discard their caste surnames, caste system wasn't the reason that made them "christian" - the money offered by the evangelist nuts, perhaps.

You remind me of that foolish Brahmin in one of the Panchatantra stories where a few crooks trick him to believe what he is carrying on his shoulders is not goat.

Comrade, what is this North Indian trait of dropping articles and adding them where they don't belong?

PS: Looks like this thread is getting your goat.
