In the last few years Linus Pauling's name as popped up more in negative connotations in some of such research. Shows that you should alawys scrutinize the theory and results instead of taking someone's word for it (however great a scientist that person is).

I read this news this AM and was really impressed. Whenever I read abt such incidents, This news item comes to mind.

To recall: This Barry Marshall came on 60 min in late 90s. He tested on himself to prove H-pylori was the cause. He presented the results to a CONFERENCE paper, which was rejected (only paper out of 490+ submissions that was rejected). Of course, the theory was proved despite the attempt by Pharma companies putting pressure everywhere to reject this finding and Marshall.
