now kunnakudi was the ultimate gimmick artiste, pretty popular but not respected by the literati.  embar Kannan is a more serious musician.

the way i like to think of the carnatic violin trimurthis is:

MSG is mr.technique and TNK is tradition and the lightest touch. lalgudi is composer non-pareil.  my favorite is MSG.
