I have seen editorials on India in the past that predicted doom and gloom.

Secularism, my foot. Here is the main reason why Laloo (and Nitish) won: caste-based politics. About 25% of the elected MLAs are Yadavs!

The tragedy is 1 muslim = 1000 hindus = 3000 skihs, one killing of a muslim results in the defeat hindus.

Yes..when even educated non-Biharis nelieve there is widespread pakistani-style riot/killing/bombings are conducted by the RSS, that only shows intolerant crooks are effective.

If Modi had strongly condemned the killings - all in opposition ruled states - he would have been accused of interfering in State affairs (for the learned idiots here - Law & order is a state subject), and of course, Modi/BJP/RSS would have been accused of high-handedness and breaking the Federal structure.
