A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi cited Jawaharlal Nehru and Manmohan Singh while addressing British parliamentarians in London, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh questioned the move, saying the ruling BJP highlighted the secular achievements of the founding fathers on foreign soil while belittling them back home.

Speaking to The Hindu, he asked why Mr. Modi was not sharing the ideas of RSS ideologues M.S. Golwalkar and K.B. Hedgewar on his foreign tours. “It is very surprising that he [Mr. Modi] is reminded of Mahatma Gandhi and now Nehru. Why is he keeping quiet about the views of Hedgewar, who founded the RSS, and Golwalkar, who was the leader of the RSS. These men represent the ideology of the RSS of which Mr. Modi was a member.”

‘Contradiction’
As for Mr. Modi’s statement that India “cannot tolerate intolerance,” Mr. Singh said there was a contradiction between what the Prime Minister said and what he did. “If he is really concerned about intolerance, why isn’t he acting against all those who have given highly condemnable statements? Has he taken any action against the Haryana Chief Minister for saying that all those who eat beef should leave the country? ”
