This guy (B.K.S. Iyengar) seems to have given "Iyengar" Yoga. How does that go with Iyers --- have they tried to create their own yoga ("Iyer" Yoga)?

You missed the point.  Didn't any proud and self-respecting Iyer guy, especially even having the last name "Iyer" and after finding out that there is something called "Iyengar" Yoga, feel like creating / having own "Iyer" Yoga 'eponymously'?
