I read this on the flight back from India. As usual I loved Lahiri's sparse prose which tells difficult stories of loneliness, betrayal, and displacement. But there was so much more here than previous books about parental aging and loss of connection to cherished places and people to identify with. She is a master of exploring inner spaces in minimalist terms without ever being mawkish. Just lovely writing. No magical realism, no bombast nothing. Just straight up honest writing about people, places and cultures she knows well.
