CHENNAI: A girl student at IIT-Madras has gone missing from her hostel, and a note recovered from her room says she wants to attain sainthood and wishes to visit the Himalayas in search of spirituality.

Police said Prathyusha Purushothaman (20), a second year MS student in the department of engineering, stayed at Sabarmathi Hostel on the IIT-M campus. She hailed from Andhra Pradesh.

Nobody on the campus had seen her since Sunday morning.

Police said Prathyusha's hostel mates found her letter from her room on Monday and informed the warden. The hostel warden lodged a complaint with the Kotturpuram police.

Police said the letter had been written in English and Telugu. The girl mentioned in her letter that she was interested in adventures and wanted to do research on spirituality.

The police registered a case and further investigations were on.
