Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday announced allocation of Rs 1000 crore towards the welfare of Muslims from the next Financial Year.

"The government would provide Rs 1000 crore for the Muslim community in the state from next financial year," an official release quoted Naidu as saying.

The Muslim population in both Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh grew faster than the Hindu population between 2001 and 2011. While Muslims constituted 12.43 per cent of the population in Telangana in 2001, it rose to 12.68 per cent in 2011 in the state. The proportion of Hindus shrank from 85.94 per cent to 85.09 per cent in Telangana during the same period.
In AP, however, the Muslim population grew at a faster rate compared to TS, rising from 6.92 per cent in 2001 to 8.53 per cent in 2011. On the contrary, there has been a decline in the Hindu population from 91.11 per cent of the total population in 2001 to 90.86 per cent a decade later
The growth rate of Muslims has been tremendous in AP between 2001 and 2011. Muslim population grew by 34.5 per cent.
