Excerpts
In other words, rather than India’s case, Nehru, in his zeal for “Asian unity”, went out of way to espouse the cause of China’s entry in to the United Nations. So much so that he rejected in 1955 a similar offer, this time from the Soviet Union. Soviet premier Nikolai Bulganin had suggested to Nehru that Moscow would propose India as the sixth permanent member of the Security Council, and thus not at the cost of China. But as Sarvepalli Gopal in his biography of Nehru (1979) has mentioned, “He (Nehru) rejected the Soviet offer to propose India as the sixth permanent member of the Security Council and insisted that priority be given to China’s admission”.
In fact, Nehru has been quoted to have said: “Perhaps Bulganin knows that some people in the US have suggested that India should replace China in the Security Council. This is to create trouble between us and China. We are, of course, wholly opposed to it. Further, we are opposed to pushing ourselves forward to occupy certain positions because that may itself create difficulties and India might itself become a subject to controversy. If India is to be admitted to the Security Council, it raises the question of the revision of the Charter of the UN. We feel that this should not be done till the question of China’s admission and possibly of others is first solved. I feel that we should first concentrate on getting China admitted.”
Just imagine what Nehru did for China and how China has responded to Indian gestures — border war in 1962 and now diplomatic war to prevent India getting in the NSG!

Negru family is - by default - one dumb family. Have they produced anyone who has passed college ? Nehru was an elite and rich and automatically went to UK and received degrees. The rest...???

Seriously...

Nehru's greatest achievement is - the creation of the Gandui family.

This is not Hindsight.

This is equivalent to losing perspective, when making decisions. It was alleged that he did not consult anyone when he made this momentous decision, that had such a far reaching implication.

His point was that with the Chinese absent, the charter should not be amended to include India.
He probably thought, that Chinese after getting admitted would immediately push for India to be included. Nothing of the sort happened. Instead they waged a war against India.

They also allegedly went ahead and proliferated Nuclear Weapon technology in direct contravention of NSG which they signed. They also proliferated Missiles in direct contravention of MTCR which they agreed to abide by.

Nehru had a very myopic view, as far as Geo-politics, strategy and foreign policy was concerned.

Now the same China is very much there in UN, and they are single handedly blocking India's membership. It also says a lot about Chinese concept of gratitude.
Not just that, they kept India out of ASEAN+3, Asia Europe Summit, APEC and so on.

The Chinese are very clear that they would not let any country in Asia grow (especially a near equal like India), unless their per-capita income equals that of US. They think the opportunities/resources are limited, and that the Chinese are the ones who should first get it, in all of Asia. All their moves are geared towards achieving this goal. In short they are Bully.

The only way to take them on is to form a partnership with nations. It has be two pronged.  A parnership in Smaller Nations like Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Thailand, Burma (which have cultural links with India) that helps these nations take on the Chinese Bully.

In addition a partnership with Japan , US to take on Chinese at the world level. It might be useful to get Britain or Germany into this mix, if they play ball.

The Chinese fear these two strategies, that is why they sneer and lash out at concepts like Quadrilateral.

It is good that NM government finally re-instituted the trilateral excersizes suspended after 2007. The Chinese are unwittingly helping this, with their hostile acts. It gives the public opinion space for governments to proceed with this long term strategy.

It also good that finally we are taking steps to combat Chinese string of pearls with our own version, by helping Vietnam. If they can do a CPEC over Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, ignoring our objections, then it is time India shows them, what it costs China to ignore Indian objections.
