Kaadhar Patcha rings a bell. Also, there was another "cult" near Trichy - Thilainagar that was caught with murders etc..in the 80s.

Swaamys from all religions - priests, padres, mullahs, swamys all agenda oriented people - power, material and/or women are their simple agenda.
