What do you think about the following scenario?

1. The 20 year old heating furnace breaks down.

2. The technician says that the heat exchanger is broken and you must replace the furnace.

3. Immediately you sign up for the home warranty appliance service plan like this
http://homewarranty.ahs.com Just $55 per month. They charge $60 per visit. If they cannot fix it, they replace the unit

4. After a couple of weeks, you call the home warranty guys, tell them your heating furnace not working. They replace the unit which costs $3000.

read the fine print. There is a waiting period of 3 months or 6 months. Also, the age of the appliance may be a factor. I once considered buying this...but quite a few catches there.

Not easy to outsmart the insurance industry (although I managed to outsmart them once - only once, and they got me twice on different matters).
