You just can't get away from the religion/gov't nexus in the middle east. This is the reason I am pessimistic about secular (in spirit), vibrant democracies taking root in this part of the world.

It is the religion that is wrong. Islamic democracies in Pakistan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Bangladesh treat their religious minorities the same way as Saudi and Iran. nothing can change this hatred of minorities across the board. Listen to those in Paksitan cursing hindus and India for Osama's death. That should tell the emptiness of their head being replaced with the poison of iSlam.
