Not getting divorced does not mean a successful marriage.

Also people who go for an arranged are less likely to divorce. I can think of following reasons for that.

They have low expectations from their marriage.
They are quick to make amends.
They are more likely traditional and divorce is a taboo in India.

that woman totally rubbed me up the wrong way. can't quite put my finger on it. he seems really smart, sincere, and self-aware. why would he want to go for her? doesn't make any sense.

Here's the problem with the video... 90% of marriages in India may be "arranged," but very few of them are arranged in this manner. This is a "dressed up" portrayal of the arranged marriage system, designed to make a point (which is made with the 5% divorce rate that is touted.) Never mind that they don't cite where those facts come from. Even in a video that is trying to make a positive point about arranged marriage, they make the lead male character present it as "better than being lonely." Not a high bar to cross.

This is not "Arranged Marriage" - can be called as parents-middle man-arranged single date decision making Marriage...PMASDD. (Really someone pls invent a new name for this kinda marriage!)

The vid would've been much better if there were a newly born baby with them. That's the main trend in arranged m.

Arranged Marriage Interview Empty Re: Arranged Marriage Interview

Like my granny said the successful relationship is determined at the very first moment when the couples look at each other. Those days the very authentic traditional wedding is where the couples were allowed to see each other during good “Muhurat” days and auspicious timing. Till that time they were blocked with a yellow veil and at the time of the “Muhurut” the veil is removed and they are allowed to see each other. Even today they follow the ritual but which doesn’t make sense.

The relationships fall and success is determined at the very first glace when the couples meet –if both of them had sparks it is certainly a good sign otherwise it is doomed.

That being said – when I first saw my husband, I didn’t have a good impression of him and that hasn’t been changed. He thought that I am a mix of arrogance, innocence, and confused and that remains the same. ;-)

What did you thought about your spouse when you first met him/her?

limiting this discussion to legal spouse only, or else this thread may run over Smile

I don't remember when I first saw him. We were 14.

I thought he was a nerd, with oily hair and red bicycle. I didn't like him, and yet felt strangely attracted to him. Turned out, he was not a nerd at all. He still has slightly oily hair, and loves sporty cars. I still do respect him. Been 24 years, and I am still somehow attached to da man.

He thought I was this vivacious, bubbly, social butterfly, and knew deep in his heart that we were meant to be together. Turned out, sadly for him, I was none of the above, and instead *I* was an asocial geek. Maybe it's his conviction that has still kept us together.

Been 18 years (yesterday) that we began dating. Will be 14 years (in two weeks) that we been married. Success/failure, I don't know. We do have two kids together, and we both are dedicated to them. Priorities change so much with time.

firstly, no one in india is an only child. ok, rare. what are the chances that both of you are only kids? and don't only kids like marrying into large families?

the guy is nice, the girl's a shrink, by the end of the video it seemed as if she bitch-slapped him or put him on vitamin Z (zoloft).

i don't get how they have nice sofas and some dead arrangement in the vase (that's typical of cold countries - why don't they have fresh flowers?) but clearly this was shot in india, i mean there was a darkie (whom the man did not acknowledge - nice guys say hello to everyone, by the way) in the room who served them coffee. and the air looked clean too, no mosquitoes, i'm impressed.

shoot, i'm sleepy, more later.

ha ha.

but clearly this was shot in india, i mean there was a darkie (whom the man did not acknowledge - nice guys say hello to everyone, by the way) in the room who served them coffee.

ha ha. i really don't know where it was shot but speaking of darkies and sculpting the video to reflect more of the fairies (my opinion), well, you know, everything needn't be darkie-fairie (i mean the bride-groom) or darkie-darkie or fairie-darkie or darkie-darkie. you can also have fairie-fairie. only in india you can make 4 dishes of 2 vegetables: alu-alu, alu-gobi, gobi-gobi, gobi-alu.

the guy who created and uploaded the video seems to be a north indian (i mean north north-indian). he is obsessed with hinduism and arranged marriages (among other things). you might find this upload of his interesting: a wonderful south indian wedding. despite a preponderance of darkies in this video (which, btw, convinces me that this vid was shot in india), the bride and groom, both, look kinda fairie. Razz

i think, in retrospect, i have espoused the middle path all my life. unsettling to say the least.

oops, i don't think the guy "created" the video. he merely uploaded it. he remarks in one place:

Nice one!!

"I don't have any problem with u being vegan" trust me taklu...one day this will be ur major problem..

Well... arranged or love - if u are lucky enough to choose ur partner for right reasons and not based on materialistic/caste-u criteria or any such things and for the rest of your life believe that you made best and wise choice, this way any married couple can enjoy strong bond for very very long time.....
