No birth certificate?

Are we sure, he's an Indian Citizen?
Seriously, seems like much to do about nothing..but, the public spectacle of taking a serving General to the Supreme Court and not able to settle this privately..is odd and not good for anyone involved.

Fairly routine in the matters of government. Usually there is another guy who is likely to succeed as the chief when this one retires. The second guy may retire if the first guy retires later.

Some of the guys are special to me..and it's a big deal for the ones- families from which these men came/come from..have served/serve with loyalty and honor- worked very hard to reach the positions they have!

I am not sure if you got what I mean or may be its the vice versa. All I meant to say is that these kind of cases are not uncommon becasue someone else might miss his chance to become the chief if the first guy does not retire based on the first birthday.

First guy:
Govt's assumed birth date: Jan 1, 1951
Retirment date based on this date : Jan 1, 2013
First Guys's claimed birth date: Oct 1, 1951
Retirement date based on this date: Oct1, 2013
Second Guy's birth date: April 1, 1951
Second guy's retirement date: April 1 2013.
If the first guy retires on Jan 1 2013, the second guy gets to be the chief. If the first guy retires on Oc1 the second guy does not get a chance.
I may be wrong, but you retiremnet pension and perks may vary according to the post at which you retire.
