had wanted to read the book first, but watched it today anyway on netflix. made kids watch it too. Initially they didn't want to, but got so much into it, that when XH called us outside for bbq, none of us wanted to get up. 

Really nice movie. Kept you engaged emotionally throughout. Especially when the end rolls and they show the real-life people of the movie.

Finished the book too today. I had bought it for my son earlier. Movie is not too different from the book, but the book has a lot more. It's narrated in first person so it explains his view, and then the book has a lot more on what he did after finding his family.
