I would say it's "watering down" when you refer to Indian food as "South Asian" or "Subcontinental." Why stop at that? They might as well call it "Central-South Asian." Those Naan-Bukharis, Tandoori dishes, etc., do have somewhat of a Bulkh-Bukhari origin.

Thanks Angel.

Will remember this, the next time I am in London. I don't really find London or England exciting or enchanting- everything seems bland to me..obviously, based on my experiences.

The names of some Indian restaurants are cute.."Tamarind" seems so stylish and exotic in English:) Wonder how much time they spent coming up with that one!

The author of the article does not seem like an Indian..not sure, if his take on Indian food would be a little different than a native (!) But he is right about some things..like many Indian restaurants in the US trying to go "mainstream"..the first few weeks they are good, but, as time goes by- they try to become less authentic and more creative..sometimes, it's awful..just like a concoction of some hot spices or poorly cooked curry paste!

>>> They also have the balti curries in the UK, which I think are of pak/afghan origin or a concoction by immigrants. Tastes awesome as pub grub. With the exception of one experience at a restaurant near Hyde Park (I had nightmares that night after the heavy oily food), overall, I have found Indian food in the UK to be quite good. My experience however does not include chic mayfair joints, but rather tended to hole-in-the-wall joints run quite often by bangladeshis.Smile
