Analyzing H-M synthesis: synthesis vs segregation

Before any analysis of H-M synthesis, i would like to mention things i do not consider H-M synthesis in the way i am defining the term. The following, while laudable, are not examples of H-M synthesis in the way i understand the term:

The second article refers to the creation of a forum of intellectuals and religious leaders who will talk on the need to inculcate and celebrate communal harmony. The first refers to one specific lecture where two religious leaders spoke on each other's religion.

The best example of H-M synthesis is when there is a longstanding tradition of a particular shrine being worshipped and revered by people from both the H and M communities. Another example would be where people (or person) from one community is actively working for the celebration of the other religion.

in my previous job, a christian colleague requested me to join him for some of the get-togethers of his church members. i did so. one chinese girl who was a good friend of my colleague, and also a devoted christian, would never attend these get-togethers. i asked him why not. the answer was that she attends a different church, especially for chinese christians.

In these get-togethers, i met and befriended an American pastor. I told him that it feels odd to see separate churches for whites and blacks. (now, of course, you have churches for chinese, koreans, etc.) . he agreed with me and said that sunday mornings is the most segregated time of all in America. he gave a cultural reason for why whites and blacks go to separate churches. whites would consider sermons and masses in black churches too noisy, while blacks would consider white churches too yawn inducingly quiet.
