when u say NE India u probably are referring to Bengal where women do enjoy preferential status as compared to men

the men take good care of their wives who lord it over them.

(In a recent poll Bengali women were considered the sexiest and best looking )

but not in Orissa ,Uttaranchal Pradesh etc
