I didn't understand the following sentence in the Times item:

"Several jurors were crying as they left the courtroom."

Why would jurors cry?

Are you sure you are not talking about the John Edwards trial? Why go after john Edwards when *none* of the wall st crooks made it to prison.

i think gupta is really small fry. there are much much bigger crooks in the banking industry who will not be convicted of anything.

===> Gupta has always been a great father to his four daughters. One hopes his conviction does not affect the lives of these young women.

They are going to be shunned by their current friends and will have difficulty getting married.

Allen Stanford.. 110 years. Bernie Madoff.. Rajat Gupta.. Wall street count building up. Rpobably there are much bigger crooks who have not yet been accused of anything. similarly there may be bigger campaign money diversions which have not been discovered yet.

Angelo struck a deal with fed on some charges. Are they still pursuing him? I think he is fishing on island and will attend Obama and Romney fundraisers in 2012.

Bharara seems to specialize in brown guys even though that is not a crime.

While Rajat made a major criminal mistake, he did have an interesting life story. NPR is saying that Jurors cried because Rajat's story is an american dream story. The reporter said that jurors were conflicted but the evidence was overwhelming. An example was that at 3:50 Raja ratnam receives a call, 40M invested in Goldman stock 5 min end of days transactions and after 4p.m. Buffet's investment information was released.

Facts aside, it is easy to be objective about accused you do not feel connected somehow.

Rajat was not the primary object of investigation. Initially and before Preet took office, the Raj investigation had begun. Rajat was a bonus handed to them when they dug into private calls routed to Raj before big transactions.

Pure hubris did Rajat in. Beware of greasy men that bring favors unasked.

spitzer trod on the SEC's shoes all the time; that's how he built his career. i thought bharara was following in his footsteps. he could have found a million ways to nail mozilo.

Well, if you are after real criminals you would start with the Senators, Banking Committee, how the game's rules are written, etc. I think its unfair to expect, like Time does, that Preet Bharara is a game-changer. Yes, he is a game-changer to the extent that these busts of 60 criminals prove that he deserves an elected office - like that memorable scene in The Contender, we expect the promise of greatness rather than proof.

So, yes, while Preet has not gone after real malfeasance, and has content himself with the periphery, he has cleaned the Indian-American house and that deserves praise.

Are you sure? It may be "implied" but in no way it is certain that it refers to it.

Agree. I am glad Bharara nailed him despite his friends in high places. I hope he is sent away for a long while.
