Different Captian for each format
What's wrong with the Pommies? I thought they're the team on the rise. Wonder if this is going to impact their performance adversely

not at all. why should it? strauss is doing well in tests and cook will do well in ODIs. who cares about t20 which broad is leading? i see nothing wrong in this move. cook is their future test captain as well. ENG will be fine.

I thought Cook wasn't part of their ODI team (or until recently)?

yes, cook wasn't a part of their ODI team. 24 carat nonsense by ENG. i wonder why ENG did not include him in their WC squad after his ashes exploits.
pietersen is better off as just a player. his resignation/removal from test captaincy was a blessing in disguise some two years ago.

It doesn't make much sense to make someone who wasn't played the format in a couple of years as a captain, wonder if his record in domestic ODIs merits the selection.

baptism by fire. i just have a feeling that he will do OK. i mean, he cannot do any worse than strauss when it comes to ODI performances (of the team).
