Impossible! We have all been educated endlessly on how those progressive Thamizhars would never stand for such regressive attitudes normally attributed to Haryanvis and such other Northindians.
This must be fake news. The other possibility is that the villain i.e. Pandyarajan is the assumed name of some Northindian on a Rashmunesque reverse-ingratiation trip. Does Pandyarajan also profess an abiding love for Subramanya Bharati's poetry?

I am prepared to go out on a limb and say this: In TN there is more prejuidice against the girl child among the backward caste guys. Only proper education alone will solve this problem.

May be there should be some kind of point base system. 20 points for caste, 50 points if none of the parents had studied beyond high school etc.
At least 50% of the seats should be set aside for women. Unless the Indian men see that women are as intelligent and capable and often more diligent, they are not going to really change their attitudes against the so called weaker sex.
Plus there should be classes in schools and colleges where they seriously debate these kinds of social issues. Everyone should be made to participate and listen to various ideas.
BTW there should be scholarships and seats set aside in schools and colleges for children of sex-workers and orphans. Unless people see them day in and day out and realize that they are like everyone else, the prejuidice against them will continue to exist.

===> Yes. That is really disheartening.
Sometimes women are the ones who oppress the other women. I know a situation where a woman with 4th standard education was so jealous of her college educated DIL, she emotionally and physically abused her.
But if we do not empower the women in terms of education and employment, the situation will get far worse and you will find more number of women being oppressed by their own kind.
